.953 Samples: Beans and Jar

It's good to be back, but rather than wax poetically over the break and what I spent my time doing while away, I thought I'd just get into it.

A shaker is one of the most basic musical instruments possible, with variations of them appearing in almost every culture going back to the Stone Age. So, I thought it was time I created a shaker of my own.

The physical setup couldn't be more simple. I took a few small white beans and dropped them into an empty spice jar. Then, using a rubber band, I attached a contact mic to the jar and shook it while recording directly into my Microtrack II. After several takes, I selected a few of the cleaner sounds, normalized them, and you have the results below.
