.212 Roz Thor Patch From DJ Mad Wax

DJ Mad Wax is back with another Thor patch. The patch is called "Roz" but I'll let him describe it to you:

Name: Roz

Device: Thor

What: this sound is designed for accents in electronic songs - its essentially a stab sound with harmonics that can be used to accentuate your music piece - its got an old school vibe to it.

Functions: utilize staccato midi patterns for best effect. There are two main rotaries set up on the Thor control pattern. The first is called "muted shaper" and its wide open. Turn it counter-clock-wise and it will mute the filter, resulting in a cool effect for adding motion in your track. The second rotary is called "frankurt am main" and its partially closed. move it clock-wise and it will give you the classic frankurt/berlin techno/trance feel. Automating or using both at the same time isn't meant to be used, but of course do what you will :) Finally, you can add a scream onto this patch with tape settings and it will give it a nice dirty crunchy feel thanks to the Noise oscillators inherent in the patch

RNS: the rns file features a series of staccato hits on one note. as you can hear, their are harmonics in the sound itself resulting in movement without using different notes. The first rotary is turned on in a note lane when you open the RNS file sequencer. This demonstrates the muted shaper effect. Turn it off and then turn on the "frankfurt am main" lane to hear that effect.

I have to say, I really dig the vibe of this patch. That metallic, shaker-sounding buzz in the patch really gives it a lot of character and unlike a lot of the patches I post here, I think Roz would be at home in an upbeat dance track or naval-gazing ambient piece, so it's pretty versitale in addition to sounding good.

Check out DJ Mad Wax's previous patches here and here. Also, be sure to check out his netlabel at Vocode Records. There's some really great stuff on there, so well worth the look.

Want to share a patch of your own? DJ Mad Wax has shared a few. Meowsqueak provided the soothing Wealth Pad in February. Send your own patch and description to me at patchaday (at) earthlink.net and we'll get your efforts posted for all to use.

Thanks, Wax, for the contribution!
